Taney County Health Department (TCHD) offers the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program. The Missouri WIC program provides supplemental food, health care referrals, nutrition education and breastfeeding promotion and support to eligible pregnant, breastfeeding and postpartum women, infants and children up to age five. Fathers, grandparents, guardians and foster parents may also apply for benefits for the children living in their household. Many Taney County residents participate in WIC, including mother of six, Evelyn. She and her children have been participating in WIC at TCHD for several years and the assistance means a lot to her family.

Breastfeeding peer counseling is a special service offered through WIC. Our staff provide breastfeeding education, encouragement, and support our moms need to breastfeed successfully.

“When I was struggling with breastfeeding, I was encouraged to keep going and given helpful insights” shared Evelyn. She continued to discuss how her Breastfeeding Peer Counselor would call to check on her and consistently share encouragement. This support helped Evelyn continue to breastfeed her child despite the challenges she faced.

Evelyn and youngest child, Noah, are grateful for the continued efforts of the TCHD WIC staff. Serving mothers and children is what our WIC team does best!

This institution is an equal opportunity provider.
