- Ticks are arachnids, while mosquitoes are insects
- Ticks feed on blood from mammals, birds, and reptiles, whereas mosquitoes primarily feed on nectar but require blood for egg production
- Both can transmit disease; ticks are known for Lyme disease and Alpha Gal, while mosquitoes can spread West Nile Virus and Zika
- Ticks typically latch onto hosts and remain attached for several days, mosquitoes bite, feed and leave quickly
- Ticks live in wooded or grassy areas while mosquitoes thrive in warm, humid environments, often near standing water
PREVENT!
- Use insect repellent such as DEET or permethrin
- Wear protective clothing
- Maintain a mowed yard free of standing water and debris
- Regularly check for ticks after outdoor activities
- Remove any ticks immediately
